UPDATE! Police Operation Closes Newcastle Road Eastbound At Jesmond

 A man is in police custody after a woman was injured when she was alleged hit by a stolen SUV at Jesmond early Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to Newcastle Road just before 2am after a 21year-old traffic controller was allegedly struck by a silver Mercedes Benz SUV which was being pursued by police. 

Police had initiated the pursuit only moments earlier when the SUV – which had been reported stolen from Salt Ash – was seen allegedly travelling above the speed limit.

Police immediately rendered assistance to the injured woman while the alleged driver of the stolen SUV was arrested after a being chased down on foot.

The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital where she is reported to be in a stable condition with pelvic injuries.

The 30-year-old man has been taken to Waratah Police Station.

A crime scene was established by Newcastle City Police with officers from the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit now conducting inquiries.

 EARLIER:

 There are major delays for traffic at Jesmond this morning due to a police operation.

Eastbound motorists on Newcastle Road are now being diverted onto the Newcastle Inner City Bypass.

The Transport Management Centre says westbound motorists  wanting to use the Inner City Bypass can consider using Blue Gum Road instead.

Motorists should also allow extra travel time and follow the directions of emergency services and traffic crews on site.

Woman Arrested After Police Operation At Mayfield

A woman is due to face court today after sparking a major police operation at Mayfield.

Police were called to Arnold Street at about 9.30am on Sunday to reports of a break-in unfolding, with a woman allegedly seen running from a home.

Officers arrested a 47-year-old woman nearby following a short foot chase with the assistance of the PolAir helicopter.

She's been charged with 2 counts of break-and-enter with intent to steal, and one count of break, enter and steal.

The woman's been refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today (Monday 22 January, 2024).

Man Arrested During Police Operation At Muswellbrook

A man is due to face Singleton Court today (Thursday 18 January, 2024) following a major police operation at Muswellbrook.

Officers from the Tactical Operations Unit and Serious Crime Squad detectives went to a home on Anzac Parade at about midday on Wednesday as part of investigations into a public place shooting at Denman earlier this month.

Police say they seized several items of interest including a Holden Colarado, two home-made firearms, a loaded shortened firearm, a .22 calibre shotgun and rounds.

They arrested a 27-year-old man at the scene.

He's been charged with 17 offences including firearms charges, drug supply, aggravated break and enter, and goods in custody.

31-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Alleged Gateshead Double Shooting

A police operation in Wallsend has resulted in a man being arrested over an alleged shooting in Lake Macquarie last week.

It comes after an investigation was launched last Thursday (the 21st of September, 2023), when a 42-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were discovered with gunshot wounds on Cassia Crescent at Gateshead.

Following inquiries, heavily armed officers and Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Detectives attended a unit block on Bousfield Street in Wallsend yesterday afternoon (Monday the 25th of September, 2023).  
 
It was there they arrested a 31-year-old man in relation to the double shooting.

During a search of the property, police located two firearms which were seized for further forensic examination.

The man's been charged with multiple offenses, including shoot with intent to murder, and was refused bail.

He's due to face Newcastle Local Court today (Tuesday the 26th of September, 2023).

Stockton Woman Dies After Police Operation

A critical incident investigation is underway after a Stockton woman died overnight.
 
Just after 12:30pm yesterday (Thursday the 14th of September, 2023), police were called to a unit complex in Mitchell Street at Stockton, following reports a woman was threatening people with an axe.
 
When they arrived, the 47-year-old woman allegedly threatened officers with the weapon before barricading herself inside a unit.
 
A police operation involving specialist tactical officers and negotiators then commenced, with officers finally gaining entry to the property at about 9:45pm.
 
Police reportedly used a taser to assist in taking the woman into custody.

She was then escorted from the scene in an ambulance, however, her condition deteriorated a short time later, and she was taken to the John Hunter Hospital, where she later died.

A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from the Homicide Squad will now investigate the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

UPDATE! Police Operation At Hamilton

A 29-year-old man is in police custody, after a stand-off with police on Tuesday morning.

It's understood, police went to the Everton Street home in Hamilton around 7:30am, pursuing an ongoing investigation.

The man allegedly refused to leave the property, but was later arrested without incident by specialist police and negotiators around 10:30am.

Officers searched the home, and another on Scholey Street in Mayfield, seizing items for forensic examination.

EARLIER:

A police operation is under way at Hamilton.

There are reports Raptor Squad police have sealed off Everton Street.

Newcastle Fire Command says they've also been asked to respond to assist officers at the scene.

It's believed to be related to the execution of a search warrant in a high-risk operation.

Meanwhile, we are receiving reports of Police storming a home in Scholey Street at Mayfield in the last hour.

It's not known if the two operations are linked.

Dramatic Arrests During Police Operation At Wallsend

Stunned residents have watched as heavily armed police swooped on a Wallsend unit block.

The drama unfolded yesterday morning in Bousfield Street and Lake Road as detectives and the dog squad joined officers from the tactical operations unit in the coordinated raid.

They chased down three men and two women who fled the apartment complex and took them into custody.

Four of them were later released without charge after being fined for breaching public health orders.

However, police arrested their target - a man wanted over a string of alleged offences including an armed robbery at Mayfield last month.

He's due to face Newcastle Local Court today charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon; armed aggravated enter dwelling, stalk and intimidate, affray, possess prohibited drug.

He will also face charges relating to two police pursuits, a driving offence and a revocation of parole warrant.
