Former Newcastle councillor Alma Tate has died aged 101.
She's being remembered as a people person, dedicating her life to service of the city.
Former Mayor John Tate says he remembers his mother as a grassroots councillor, caring for locals and going door to door.
When she was elected, she was one of three women on Council- among her achievements, helping to establish Lambton pool and the New Lambton Community Centre.
She was later awarded an Order of Australia.
A memorial service will be held in coming weeks.
