A bush fire which at one stage threatened homes at Anna Bay, has now been brought under control.
The fire broke out off Fishermans Bay Road just before 3.30pm on Monday, sending a large smoke haze across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie suburbs.
Several RFS crews and a water-bombing helicopter managed to stop the flames from reaching homes.
Firefighters had the blaze burning within containment lines just before 10.00pm.
The fire, which has burnt through 12 hectares, is now listed at Advice level.
