Hunter getting ready to welcome international travellers back

BY MIA GORSEVSKI

The Hunter's tourism industry is getting ready to welcome back international travelers back after years of stagnation.

It's hoped local music, art and food events will be revived as we pass the peak of the pandemic.

Hunter Valley Wine Tourism Association CEO Amy Cooper says they're looking forward to bringing overseas crowds back into the region.

"Opening up again or becoming more frequent will mean that we will see some of the larger, international acts that were unfortunately cancelled as we initially rolled into the coronavirus," Ms Cooper said.

"It will be great to see some of those back on the cards for the Hunter and I think that will attract many."

It's hoped the re-opening of international borders will be a vital boost for local businesses to be up and going again for a life of normality.

Ms Cooper says she hopes this is the end to stop-start disruptions.

"Businesses are practicing COVID-safe protocols in the way they are operating and they have been able to operate with good business continuity as well as safety for customers," Ms Cooper said.

"I think we are really prepared."
