Pair Arrested Over Maitland Crime Spree

BY IAN CROUCH

A man and a teenage boy have been charged over a crime spree around Maitland.

Around 3.00am on Sunday, patrolling police noticed a car in the C.B.D which had earlier been reported stolen and started pursuing the vehicle, however the chase was called off for safety reasons.

About four hours later, officers spoke to three young males near a service station on the New England Highway at Rutherford and determined they were involved in the pursuit.

They were arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station where a 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were charged with two alleged separate car thefts, police pursuits, property, driving and drug offences.

A third teenager aged 16 will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
