General Manager, Phil Pearce,
has announced his shock resignation just 18 months into a 5 year contract,
stating it is for personal reasons.
His departure comes at a time
when Newcastle City Council is considering drastic measures to combat a
ballooning budget deficit that is set to reach 64-million dollars by 2022 if
nothing is done.
There are currently plans to
possibly cut staff and services, and tear down toilet blocks and park benches
in order to save on maintenance costs.
Despite the sudden
resignation, the council says it is business as usual, and they will take as
much time as is needed to fill the position.
Phil Pearce will vacate the job
on the 1st March.
