Woman Arrested After House Fire In Lake Macquarie

A woman has been arrested following a house fire at Mirrabooka overnight.

Newcastle Fire Command says 8 trucks and several RFS crews were called to the two storey home on Mooranga Road just after 10.30pm on Sunday to find the house fully involved in fire.

Police evacuated residents from neighbouring homes.

It took just under an hour to bring the blaze under control - crews managed to stop the flames from spreading to adjoining homes.

Police say a 32-year-old woman, who was the sole occupant of the house, self-evacuated and was not injured.

She was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station where she was was charged with damaging property by fire/explosion more than $15,000.

The woman's been refused bail and will face a bail hearing today (Monday 18 August, 2025).

BREAKING! Man Points Loaded Speer Gun At Police At Mirrabooka

A man is due to face court today accused of pointing a loaded spear gun at police at Mirrabooka.

Police say a 43-year-old man tried to gain entry to his neighbour's home in Mooranga Road at about 8.40pm on Sunday and began elling at the homeowner.

Officers arrived and found the man on the front yard of the property where it's alleged he pointed the loaded spear gun at them.

A struggle ensued and the man was arrested.

He's been refused bail to face Toronto Local Court today charged with affray, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, assault and resist officer in execution of duty.

Fire Destoys Home-Made Caravan at Mirrabooka

Fire has destroyed a home-made caravan at Mirrabooka in Southern Lake Macquarie.

Fire crews were called to a home on Hillcrest Avenue just before 10.00pm on Sunday to find the caravan, which was parked in the driveway, engulfed in flames.

Two people inside the adjacent house were trapped due to the fire and were released by firefighters unharmed.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated.
