Hunter School of Performing Arts Evacuated Due to Gas Leak in Broadmeadow

Fire and Rescue crews are one scene investigating the source of a gas leak at Broadmeadow. 

They were alerted to a strong smell of gas near the Broadmeadow tennis courts just after 8:00am on Thursday. 

They've since confirmed the gas leak was either coming from the tennis courts or a neighbouring lot.

Nearby businesses and residents have been notified and it's understood the Hunter School of Performing Arts has been evacuated and closed as a precaution.

Workers Evacuated After Gas Leak at Adamstown

A gas leak at an Adamstown building site has forced the evacuation of several workers.

Police and Fire crews were called to the residential building site on Jefferson Street just after 3pm yesterday where a medium pressure gas line had ruptured.

25 people were evacuated as a precaution and Jefferson Street was closed as crews assisted the gas company in making the area safe.

The all clear was given at about 3.30pm. 

UPDATE! Bat Sparks Gas Leak At Islington

Fire crews and the gas company has the area safe after a gas leak early Friday morning.

A flying fox flew into overhead power lines, causing a short which travelled down an earth wire and ruptured a gas main, sparking a small fire.

A representative from Sydney Trains de-energised the line to allow for repairs to be made.

EARLIER:

A fruit bat a sparked a gas leak at Islington early Friday morning.

Newcastle Fire Command says the bat flew into an electrical installation next to the railway line in Chin Chen Street just after 4.00am, causing a short.

In turn, this caused an earth to rupture a gas line, starting a small fire.

One family has been displaced from their home.

Firefighters are waiting for a representative from Sydney Trains to de-energise power so a gas company crew can repair the gas line.

It's not clear at this stage if trains are affected.

BREAKING! Firefighters Called To Gas Leak At Mayfield West

UPDATE:

A gas company repair crew have arrived and have clamped the ruptured pipe with the area made safe.

EARLIER:

Firefighters have been called to reports of a gas leak at Mayfield West.

They arrived in Werribee Street at 5.15am on Wednesday to find gas coming out of the ground in front of a nearby home.

They've requested urgent assistance from the gas company.

Newcastle Fire Command says it appears a gas pipe between the mains and the meter of the home has ruptured.

Fire crews have shut off the gas at the meter and set up fire protection as they await the arrival of the gas company.

They've requested the residents of the property to remain inside with the doors and windows shut. 

BREAKING! Residents Evacuated At Kurri Kurri Due To Gas Leak

A gas leak has forced the evacuation of two homes at Kurri Kurri this morning.

Firefighters were called to Hampden Street just after 2.30am on Wednesday, where there was a strong smell of gas coming from one of the homes.

Police say it appears someone has deliberately damaged the pipe work next to a gas meter attached to a house.

A gas company crew was called and the damage repaired, with the residents allow to return to the homes at about 3.30am.

Gas Leak Closes St James Road at New Lambton

Fire crews have been kept busy attending to a gas leak at New Lambton last night.

3 fire trucks from Lambton were called to St James Road at 8.50pm on Monday to find a gas main had been ruptured.

Police say the main had been dug through.

St James Road was closed while crews clamped 3 pipes.

No residents were evacuated and the road was re-opened just before midnight.
