BREAKING! Man Charged Over The Murder Of Anthony Nugent

Two men have been arrested in relation to the shooting of Hamilton South local Anthony Nugent last year. 

The 57-year-old was shot in the chest at the front door of his Fowler Street unit at about 11:00pm on the 6th of September 2022. 

Detectives will allege it was a targeted attack linked to the black market gun trade. 

Following enquiries, detectives linked to Strike Force Alcheringa searched a property on Station Street at Waratah yesterday (1st of August 2023), where they arrested a 26-year-old man. 

He's since been charged with murder. 

A second man from Macquarie Hills was also arrested this morning (2nd of August 2023) and is reportedly assisting police with enquires from Campbelltown Police Station. 

So far he has not been charged.

Man Arrested Over Stolen Property And Arrest Warrants At Hamilton South

Police investigating reports of stolen property across Newcastle have arrested a man overnight at Hamilton South.

Officers noticed the 36-year-old pushing a specialised mountain bike along Fowler Street just before 6.00pm on Monday which they suspected had been stolen.

The man was also allegedly in possession of a stolen iPhone and two fuel cards which had been reported stolen from a car in Burwood Street Merewether on Sunday.

Checks revealed the man was also wanted on two arrest warrants for failing to appear in court.

He's been been refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today.

Man Critically Injured In Neighbour Dispute At Hamilton South

A man remains in a critical condition in hospital after a brutal bashing at Hamilton South.

Emergency services were called to a unit in Fowler Street yesterday morning where they found the 59-year-old with serious head injuries.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man at the unit block - he's due to face Newcastle Local Court today charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and destroy or damage property.

It's understood the men were neighbours at the unit complex.

Police are yet to disclose a motive for the alleged attack.
