Port Stephens Residents Win Campaign For Reduced Speed Limit

Port Stephens residents have had a big win in their campaign to have the speed limit on a notorious stretch of road reduced.

Already this year, one man has been killed and 5 people injured in two serious crashes in the 90km/h zone where Tomago Road and Cabbage Tree Road meet at Tomago.

RMS data compiled last year showed both roads were significantly more dangerous than similar roads with 90km/h zones in regional NSW.

A community campaign led by Port Stephens MP, Kate Washington has been successful in having the speed limit reduced to 80km/h.

Police Investigate Fatal Motorbike Crash At Williamtown

Police are appealing for dash-cam footage after a motorcyclist died in a crash at Williamtown overnight.

The 62-year-old from Medowie was riding along Cabbage Tree Road at about 6.15pm on Wednesday when his motorbike collided with a utility.

The motorcycle then careered into an adjacent fence causing fatal injuries to the man.

The 24-year-old Williamtown man driving the utility was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for routine blood alcohol tests.

Head-On Crash At Williamtown Leaves Three People In Hospital

Two people remain in a critical condition after a head-on smash at Williamtown.

A red Toyota Echo and a white Holden Statesman were involved in a head-on crash on Cabbage Tree Road just after 1.30pm on Wednesday, trapping three people in the cars.

The Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew a 62-year-old woman to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition with multiple injuries.

A 54-year-old man was trapped in his car for 90 minutes before being freed and taken to the John Hunter in a critical condition.

A second man aged 54 is in a stable condition.

Cabbage Tree Road was re-opened at about 6.40pm.
