A family of five has escaped unharmed after fire engulfed their home at Greta overnight.
Emergency services were called to the single level weatherboard home on the New England Highway just before 10.00pm on Tuesday to find the property fully involved in fire.
Newcastle Fire Command says it took four Fire and Rescue crews and several RFS units more than three hours to extinguish and mop up the fire before the scene was handed to police.
The New England Highway was closed for the duration of the incident.
Police say an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.
UPDATE:
Fire crews have been called back to a re-ignition at the home at about 5.45am on Wednesday.
