In celebration of International Volunteer Day, Federal Member for Newcastle, Sharon Claydon announced on Sunday, the opening of nominations for the 2022 Newcastle Volunteer Service Awards.
"Its been a tough couple of years for our community groups and organisations, but they have continued to work tirelessly for our community, ensuring no one is left behind," she said.
Ms Claydon noted the theme of this year's International Volunteer Day, "Volunteer now for our common future" and its intent to inspire both decision-makers and everyday world citizens to begin to take action for people and the planet.
"These volunteers, who are doing incredible things, just think what they do is completely normal and nothing out of the ordinary. They are very humble people and tend never to put themselves forward for recognition, so it is very dependent on others recognizing their contribution," she said.
"This year I have been lucky enough to witness firsthand the amazing efforts of our local community volunteers. Whether it's in community kitchens providing vital food services to vulnerable or disadvantaged Novocastrians, packing and preparing food hampers for newly arrived Afghani refugees, or the amazing volunteer efforts to keep our valuable wetlands and waterways clean and vibrant."
Ms Claydon is inviting Newcastle residents to take 10 minutes from their busy lives to nominate someone who they believe has offered outstanding service in our community for the award.
Nomination forms can be found on Sharon Claydon's website and must be submitted by Friday 28th January 2022.
