Newcastle Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault at New Lambton early Thursday morning.
A man was found with significant injuries near the BP Service Station on St James Road just before 4.30am.
He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
Police believe the victim was assaulted by another male.
Anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed the incident is urged to contact Waratah Police Station.
