Popular Indian Restaurant Targeted In Break And Enter

 A 40-year-old Metford man is due to front court today accused of breaking into a popular Indian Restaurant at Merewether.

Police say the man smashed a window to gain entry to the Sapphire restaurant on Glebe Road at about 7 yesterday morning and escaped with a safe, cash register and a small tablet computer.

Officers retrieved CCTV footage and were able to track the man down at his Metford home just before 6 last night.

He's been remanded in custody to face Maitland Local Court today, while the search continues for his alleged accomplice, who's been described as a man his 30's or early 40's of Pacific Islander appearance with tattoos on his left arm.
