Police Officer Spat at Whilst Investigating Domestic Violence Incident at Stroud Home

A man has been charged after spitting at a police officer, whilst attending to a domestic violence related incident at a home in Stroud. 

About 10.30am on Wednesday the 22nd of April, an officer from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended a home on Berkley Street, speaking to a 29-year-old man before being refused entry. 

As the senior constable walked away, he was allegedly spat on.

The man was arrested and during a search of the home, a 32-year-old woman was located inside.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic), and assaulting an officer in execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday the 23rd of April. 

Motorbike Rider Killed Near Stroud

A motorcyclist has been killed in a two vehicle accident near Stroud yesterday.

The accident occurred on the Bucketts Way, where Police believe the motorbike rider was attempting to overtake a truck when it collided with an oncoming Toyota Hilux.

The 44-year-old man on the motorbike died at the scene.

The 61-year-old driver of the Hilux was taken to John Hunter Hospital suffering leg injuries.

Officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command are conducting investigations into the accident.

Forensic officers have established a crime scene; a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Crash in Stroud Claims Young Life

Crash investigators are trying to piece together the circumstances leading up to a fatal crash near Stroud last night.

A 25-year-old man from Merewether died when his car slammed into a tree on the Bucketts Way, 3 kilometres south of the town.

Emergency services were alerted of the crash at about 9:45pm last night, but the man died at the scene.

Georgie Wells from Police Headquarters says officers would like to speak to anyone who could provide more information about the crash, and any witnesses are urged to contact Crime-Stoppers on 1800-333-000.
