Police Dog, Vegas, Catches Fletcher Vehicle Thieves

BY ISABEL EVERETT Two offenders wanted on warrants and in possession of a stolen vehicle have been tracked down in Fletcher, thanks to the work of the Police dog unit. On Saturday night the offenders were traced to the suburb, with Police dog, Vegas, tracking both offenders who were swiftly arrested by Police from the Dog Unit and Newcastle City. They were taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with the Warrants and other offences.

Police Investigate Jesmond Shooting

A man is undergoing surgery after being shot at Jesmond early this morning.

Police and emergency services were called to the Executive Villas on Newcastle Road at 1.45am to find the 27-year-old with a gunshot wound to his left thigh and left hand.

He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives set up a crime scene and commenced a search of the area with the assistance of the Police Dog Unit.

A number of items were found and taken for forensic examination.

Police believe the incident was not a random attack.

Police Dog Tracks Down Wanted Man At Redhead

 A 22-year-old man on the run from police has been arrested while hiding in bush at Redhead last night after being tracked down by a police dog .

Police were called to Alison Street just before 11 o'clock to reports of a suspicious Black Holden Commodore utility.

The driver took off when officers arrived and dumped the car before running into the bush.

It took more than half an hour for the police dog to find him, leaving him with a bite mark on his ankle in the process.

He's due to face Belmont Local Court today charged with breach of bail and driving while disqualified.
