Fifth Man Charged Over Alleged Kidnapping At Rutherford

Police have charged a fifth man over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a man at Rutherford earlier this year.

On February 28, police located a 38-year-old man near Greta suffering serious injuries.

He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Maitland Hospital for the treatment of facial injuries, bruising, lacerations, and a stab wound to his leg.

Police allege that the man was forced into a vehicle in the Rutherford area on February 27, before he was taken to a premises in Metford where he was allegedly drugged and assaulted, before later being released.

Following extensive inquiries three men - aged 26, 35 and 53 - were charged over their alleged involvement and remain before the courts.

A fourth man, aged 32, was also charged; however, no longer remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries by police, a fifth man was arrested on Main Road, Cardiff, about 3.40pm yesterday.

The 29-year-old was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with kidnap in company with intent.

He remains behind bars after being refused bail during his appearance in Belmont Local Court today.

Couple Allegedly Kidnapped And Held Against Their Will At Swan Bay

Two men will face court next month accused of kidnapping a couple from Sydney and taking them to Port Stephens.

Police say on Wednesday January 18 a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were walking towards a carpark in Fairfield when they were grabbed by two men wearing balaclavas and forced into a vehicle.

The couple managed to escape from their captors two days later at Swan Bay before calling a family member who called police.

The pair were taken to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment - police say the man's finger was severed during the kidnapping ordeal.

Following extensive inquiries, two men aged 24 and 25 were arrested in Sydney and have been refused bail to face court of 1 May, 2023.

Maitland Woman Facing Court, Allegedly Faking Her Own Kidnapping

A woman will face court on Wednesday charged over an alleged hoax kidnapping in the Hunter on Tuesday night.

Police allege around 10.40pm on Tuesday, a 20-year-old woman was on a video call with relatives when she was handcuffed and appearing to be held against her will by a man.

Relatives contacted police shortly after the call was terminated.

Officers commenced inquiries into the whereabouts of the woman.

About 1.30am on Wednesday, police attended a hotel on High Street, Maitland, and located the 20-year-old and another woman.

She was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with conveying false information that a person/property is in danger.

She was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.

Police are conducting inquiries into the whereabouts of the man.

He’s described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 160cm to 170cm tall, with a solid build, brown hair and brown eyes.

Man To Face Court Over Alleged Kidnapping At West Wallsend

A man is due to front Maitland Local Court today accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman.

Police say the 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman who are known to each other, were travelling in a Holden Commodore on Monday morning when he assaulted her at the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Northcott Drive, Adamstown Heights.

She managed to escape when the car stopped in King Street, Newcastle and raised the alarm at the court house.

It's alleged the man spotted her later that day at West Wallsend and forced her into his car before he eventually released her at a Cessnock Hotel.

Police arrested the man at the hotel yesterday.


He's been refused bail to face Maitland Local Court charged with two counts of common assault, contravene apprehended violence order and take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage.

Two Hunter Men Charged Over Terrifying Kidnapping In State's Central West

It's been revealed two Hunter men have been charged over the alleged kidnapping of a family of four in the state's Central West.

It's alleged 23-year-old Adam McKay from Cardiff South and 29-year-old Samuel Towney of Mayfield broke into a house near Condobolin early Tuesday morning and bashed and bound a 68-year-old man before dousing the home in petrol and setting it alight.

They're also accused of kidnapping the man's wife, daughter and two grandsons.

McKay and Towney were tracked down with the help of a police helicopter north west of Sydney.

A third man, 44-year-old Jason McKay has also been charged.
