Truck Loaded With E-Bikes And Batteries Destroyed By Fire At Nerong

Fire crews have worked through the night to extinguish a truck fire at Nerong north of Newcastle.

Newcastle Fire Command says a B-Double with a mixed load which included E-bikes and batteries caught fire in the northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway about 2 kilometres south of the town just after midnight on Tuesday 9 December 2025.

Fire and Rescue crews from Tea Gardens along with a bulk water tanker from Toronto and a Hazmat team from Newcastle were sent to the blaze.

It's taken 5 hours to completely extinguish the fire and make the area safe.

The truck driver wasn't injured and a salvage operation is getting under way.

 

Truck Fire Closes Pacific Highway At Nerong

A truck fire at Nerong has closed the southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway for a couple of hours overnight.

Newcastle Fire Command says just after 11.30pm the driver of a B-Double carrying a load of sugar reported flames coming from underneath the trailer and pulled over just south of the town near Little Nugra Road.

By the time Fire and Rescue and RFS crews arrived, the truck and was engulfed in flames.

They took about two hours to extinguish the fire.

A Hazmat crew from Newcastle has been called in to remove around 800 litres of diesel from the truck.

It's believed the fire started in the truck's brake system.

 

Queensland Couple Arrested Over Dramatic High Speed Pursuit Near Bulahdelah

A man and woman from Queensland are due to front court over a high speed pursuit which ended with an allegedly stolen car crashing just south of Bulahdelah with two young children inside.

Police say officers began chasing the BMW when they noticed it speeding on the Pacific Highway near Taree yesterday morning - however it was called off near Foster due to safety concerns.

The car was seen at Nerong where it crashed into trees.

A 25-year-old woman and two children aged 3 and 5 were located nearby, while a 22-year-old man who police say was driving the car, ran off.

He was tracked down with the help of Polair and the Dog Unit.

The man's been charged with several offences including exceed speed by more than 45 kilometres per hour, dangerous driving, unlicensed driving, drive with child not restrained (x2), and drive conveyance without consent of owner. 

He's been refused bail to face Forster Local Court today.

The woman was charged with being carried in conveyance without consent of owner - she's due to face Forster Local Court on Wednesday 19 December.

Police also lodged a child at risk notification with Family and Community Services.

Truck Crash Blocks Pacific Highway At Nerong

Southbound traffic is at a standstill on the Pacific Highway at Nerong.

Two trucks collided at about 4.15 this morning, two kilometres north of Viney Creek Road, causing one to jack-knife.

NSW Fire & Rescue says the drivers were not injured.

Emergency services are still at the scene and a Hazmat Unit is on the way from Newcastle to clear diesel from the road.

There are no diversions in place and traffic is being held at the scene while the trucks are cleared from the road.

Traffic is back for 1.2 kilometres.
