BREAKING! Body Found During Search For Missing Fisherman At Summerland Point

The body of a man has been located following a marine search for a missing fisherman on Lake Macquarie.

About 4.00pm (Thursday 29 May 2025), police were called to Summerland Point, Lake Macquarie, following reports an 82-year-old man had not returned from a fishing trip.

Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District and Marine Area Command – with assistance from Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving NSW – arrived and began searching for the man after his boat was located abandoned.

During the search – with assistance from a Surf Life Saving NSW helicopter – the body of the man was located in the water about 7.40pm.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Body believed to be that of missing fisherman found at Swansea

A body, believed to be that of missing fisherman Luke Smith has been located today.

About 7.50pm on Saturday July 6, emergency services were called to Channel Street, Swansea, following reports of multiple people in the water after a small boat overturned.

Three men were pulled from the water a short time later, however 23-year-old Luke Smith could not be located.

About 12.20pm today, emergency services were called to Swansea following reports a body had been located in the channel.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Body Found Near Wybung Head Believed To Be Missing Fisherman

A body, believed to be that of a missing fisherman who fell from rocks at Timber Beach last Sunday, has been recovered.

A member of the public located a body on rocks about 100 metres off shore near Wybung Head around 10.15am on Thursday.

The Westpac Lifesaver helicopter was called in to assist with the body retrieval operation.

Although the body is yet to be formally identified, it's believed to be that of a 62-year-old man who fell from rocks while fishing south of Caves Beach.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Search To Resume For Missing Fisherman Near Timber Beach

A search will resume this morning for an Eleebana man who was washed off rocks while fishing at Timber Beach near Catherine Hill Bay.

The alarm raised at about 10.30 yesterday morning with Water Police and the Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter commencing a search for the 62-year-old, along with surf Lifesavers.

However, there's been no trace of the man who was wearing a lifejacket.

Acting Inspector Stephen Wade said the man was fishing with his son-in-law when tragedy struck.


"His son-in-law has caught a fish and he (the missing man) has gone to help him pick it up and fallen in the water. He hasn't been seen since," he said.
