BREAKING! Aircraft Crashes Into Lake Macquarie

Two people have been rescued after the light helicopter they were in crashed into Lake Macquarie this morning.

Fire and Rescue NSW says emergency services were called to Marmong Point just before 10.30am on Wednesday.

It's believed a gyrocopter crashed into shallow water.

The two people on board were accounted for and are being accessed by paramedics, but it's believed they are both conscious and have not suffered serious injuries.

Local boat owners have assisted in towing the aircraft to a local marina.

Hazmat crews have placed booms around the aircraft as a precaution.

Investigation Launched Into Fatal Helicopter Crash At Maitland Vale

Police are yet to formally identify a man who died in a helicopter crash at Maitland Vale.

Emergency services were called to Campbells Road about 10kms north of Maitland at about 4.20pm on Thursday where they found the Bell Jet Ranger helicopter had crashed onto a riverbank.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, was found deceased at the scene.

Police have set up a crime scene and investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been called in to look into the circumstances surround the crash.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
