Man Suffers Burns In Battery Explosion At Lemon Tree Passage

A man in his 50's is recovering in the burns unit at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital after a battery exploded in his face at Lemon Tree Passage.

NSW Ambulance says the man was working on the battery on a boat when the explosion occurred at about 2.45pm on Wednesday, leaving him with serious hydrochloric acid burns to his face and chest.

Ambulance Inspector Joel De Zuna says thankfully the man knew to pour water on the area until paramedics arrived.

He was flown to Sydney for further treatment and is now listed in a stable condition.

Man Killed In Car Explosion At Gwandalan

Neighbours have described the harrowing scene which confronted them after a car exploded at Gwandalan claiming the life of a 63-year-old man.

Emergency services were called to Quinalup Street just after 7.00am on Sundaywhere they found the car ablaze and neighbours performing CPR on Alan Bull - despite all their efforts he sadly died at the scene.

It's believed a gas bottle inside the car sparked the massive explosion which could be heard and felt kilometres away.

This witness has told Nine News there was frantic effort to save Mr Bull from the inferno.

"He was lying in the driveway bloodied. His son and a neighbour were trying to drag him away from the burning wreck," he said.

Police are treating the incident as a tragic accident.

Five Injured In Heater Explosion At Medowie

Five people have been injured – two critically – after a backyard heater exploded north of Newcastle overnight.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District and NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a home on Carnouskie Way, Medowie, about 8.30pm (Saturday 20 July 2019), and found five people suffering serious burns.

A 50-year-old man, from Medowie, and a 42-year-old woman, from Corlette, sustained severe burns and were airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

Three men, two aged 39 and 54 from Medowie and a 40-year-old man from Raymond Terrace, were treated at the scene for serious burns to their bodies. They were taken by road ambulance to John Hunter Hospital.

Police have been told the diesel heater was being re-fuelled when the explosion occurred.

A crime scene was established, and witnesses are assisting police with inquiries.

Bartender Sues Newcastle Club Over Keg Explosion

A young bartender is suing Newcastle's Bar Beach Bowling Club after he lost his arm in an explosion there almost 4 years ago.

Jye Parker was helping to set up a beer keg in the cool room at the club in October 2014 when the blast tore off his left arm.

The Telegraph reports the 27-year-old is suing the club and Carlton United Breweries, saying they breached their duty of care.

He says the over-pressurised keg ruptured because it didn't have a gas regulating device fitted.

UPDATED: Father And Young Daughter Rushed To Hospital After Explosion At Anna Bay

A father and his young daughter have been rushed to hospital after an explosion at Anna Bay last night.

Emergency services were called to a home on Morna Point Road at about 10pm to find the 37-year-old man and his 4-year-old daughter with lacerations and shrapnel injuries.

They've been taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition and are expected to undergo surgery this morning.

Police say it appears the man had been fossicking around the sand dunes at the former World War 2 military range nearby and found some old ordnance and took them home.

He was handling one of the items last night in the backyard of his home when it detonated.

The Army bomb squad was brought in from Sydney - they removed a number of items, believed to be projectiles.

Police have set up a crime scene as investigations into the incident continue.

It's prompted police to issue a warning to the community not to touch unexploded ordnance if they find any, but to mark the spot and call police immediately.

Five People Injured After Explosion At Corlette

A 16-year-old boy is fighting for life in Sydney's Royal North Shore hospital after an explosion in a fire pit during a family function at Corlette.

Police say methylated spirit was poured onto the fire pit while five people huddled around it for warmth on the patio of a home in Sandy Point Road just after 5.00pm yesterday.

The 16-year-old suffered burns to his face, arms and torso - a man and woman in their 40's were also flown to Sydney with serious burns to their legs and torso.

Two others, a man and woman in their 40's, were taken to the John Hunter Hospital with burns to their face and torso.

The teenager is expected to undergo surgery this morning.

Officers from the Port Stephens/Hunter Police District have set up a crime scene as investigations continue.
