BREAKING! Brave Shopkeeper Fights Off Would-Be Robber At Kahibah

A would-be armed robber got more than he bargained for when he tried to hold-up a grocery store at Kahibah overnight.

CCTV footage shows the heavy set man wearing a dark hoodie and hi-viz trousers entering the Friendly Grocer IGA Store in Glebe Street at about 7.40pm on Tuesday armed with a knife.

He confronted the proprietor who was crouched down using a dustpan and brush to sweep up.

Seeing the man approaching, the proprietor sprang to his feet and started hitting the offender with a broom and a struggle ensued.

During the affray, the shop owner managed to grab a large baton and proceeded to hit the offender over the head with it.

The man then fled with the owner in hot pursuit.

Lake Macquarie Police are investigating.

Police Hunt Two Men Over Attempted Armed Hold-Up At Jesmond

Police are looking for two offenders who attempted to hold up a convenience store at Jesmond on Thursday night.

Police say two men wearing dark clothing and masks entered the store on Blue Gum Road just after 8.30pm armed with a firearm and a sharp object.

They threatened the male attendant and demanded cash, but the worker refused to comply and the pair fled empty-handed.

Anyone who noticed the pair acting suspiciously in the area at the time is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

BREAKING! Pedestrian Defends Himself Against Knife-Wielding Bandit At Anna Bay

An alleged knife-wielding bandit has been arrested after trying to rob a pedestrian at Anna Bay.

Police say the 23-year-old local man hid in bushes on Gan Gan Road just before 11.00pm on Monday before approaching a 39-year-old man and demanding money.

But the victim was having none of it, punching the alleged offender in the face before wrestling the knife from him and holding him down until police arrived a short time later.

Officers arrested the 23-year-old - he's been refused bail to face Raymond Terrace Court today (Tuesday 29 March, 2022) charged with two offences - assault with intent to rob while armed with offensive weapon, and armed with intent to commit indictable offence, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years gaol.

The victim was taken to Tomaree Hospital and has been referred to the John Hunter today for x-rays on a broken hand.

Man To Face Court Over Attempted Armed Robbery At Tarro Convenience Store

A man is due to front court today accused of attempting to rob a Tarro convenience store at knife point.

Police say the 21-year-old entered the store on Anderson Drive at about 4.00pm on Tuesday armed with a large knife and demanded cash and cigarettes from the owner.

When the owner challenged the would-be thief, he fled the store empty-handed.

Just before 7.00pm, the man gave himself up a Maitland Police Station.

He's been charged with one count of attempted armed robbery with an offensive weapon and refused bail to face Maitland Local Court today.

Would-Be Armed Robber Chased From Take Away Shop At Medowie

A shop owner has chased a wound-be armed robber who attempted to hold-up his take away store at Medowie.

Police say a young male entered the Magic Noodle shop on Ferodale Road about 8.30pm on Wednesday and threatened the male shop owner with a knife while demanding cash from the til.

However, the plucky owner refused and chased the young man out the door before raising the alarm.

Bandits Flee Attempted Armed Robbery At Lake Macquarie Club

Lake Macquarie police are searching for two men who attempted to hold up the Toronto Country Club overnight.

The pair wearing balaclavas and armed with a knife and small axe, confronted a member of staff as he was finishing up for the day at about 1.00am and attempted to rob the club.

However, they set off the alarm in the process and were frightened off.

The worker wasn't injured - police will examine CCTV footage in a bid to identify the pair.

Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity around the Wangi Road club early this morning is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

Worker And Bystander Foil Attempted Armed Robbery At Morpeth

The courageous actions of an employee and a bystander has seen a would-be armed robber arrested at Morpeth.

Police say a 19-year-old man entered the Spa Express grocery store on Swan Street at about 7.00pm on Monday and threatened a female employee with a knife and demanded cash.

However, an off-duty male employee intervened, punching the alleged offender in the face, suffering a superficial cut to his hand when he tried to grab the knife.

A male shopper came to his aid recovered the knife and helped to detain the 19-year-old until police arrived - he's due to face Maitland Local Court today charged with attempted armed robbery.


The alleged offender was left with a laceration to his left eyebrow as a result of the punch to the head.

Police say while they don't encourage people to intervene in such potentially dangerous situations, it's likely the young male worker will be formally recognised for his brave action.

Tenambit Bottle Shop Owner Foils Armed Robbery.

The owner of a Tenambit bottle shop has taken matters into his own hands to stop a would-be armed robber.

A man walked into the Tenambit Cellars on Maize Street at about 7.30pm on Wednesday and threatened the owner with a knife while demanding cash.

However the owner, who was alone in the shop, was having none of it and produced a wooden bat, telling the bandit to get out.

The man fled on foot with the owner in hot pursuit, chasing him along Maize Street then into Tyrell Street and Clarence Street before he lost sight of him.

He's described as being Caucasian, about 180 centimetres tall with an athletic build and was wearing a white hooded jacket, red bandana, black pants and black Nike running shoes.
