The M1 has closed just in time for peak-hour traffic southbound on the Hawkesbury River Bridge.
There are reports of a man in his 20s trapped in a multi-vehicle accident. Transport for NSW says motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use the Pacific Highway instead.
It comes just days after a major metal spill shredded the tyres of hundreds of motorists.
