Dozens of people have been evacuated after a fire broke out in a restaurant at Westfield Kotara.
Firefighters were called to the busy shopping centre just after 5.30pm on Wednesday to find smoke pouring from a level 3 rooftop Chinese restaurant.
Newcastle Fire Command says around 50 people were evacuated but no-one was injured.
Multiple sprinkler heads activated to douse the flames.
Police say oil caught alight, sparking the fire emergency.
