BREAKING! Fire Crews Called To Major Hazmat Incident At Williamtown

 BY IAN CROUCH

Firefighters have been called to reports of a Hazmat incident at the Newcastle Airport precinct.

A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW says crews were called to BAE Systems off Williamtown Drive just before midnight on Monday.

It's understood there was an uncontrolled release of firefighting foam in a hangar.

Police say the foam is not toxic but crews will be busy for several hours cleaning up the mess.

Flights into and out of Newcastle Airport have not been impacted by the incident.
