Two teenage boys have been left shaken but unharmed after getting into trouble off Newcastle Beach on Sunday night.
Police say just before 7.00pm, the 15-year-olds entered the water but swam out too far and caught caught in a rip.
Two board riders on the shore noticed them struggling and paddled out to rescue them.
The pair were checked over by paramedics before heading home.
It comes after the search for a man in his late teens or early 20's was called off last week after he got caught in a rip and disappeared off Stockton Beach.
