Stardust Protests Turn Nasty

BY IAN CROUCH

The Stardust Circus at Broadmeadow has called in the police amid claims of property damage and threats on social media.

The circus has been the subject of protests from animal activists since it arrived in town last month.

Circus Ringmaster, Adam St James says the protests have a taken a disturbing turn for the worse, with advertising signs around Newcastle destroyed and calls on social media to set circus animals free.

He's told the Herald he operates a law-abiding business and they've never had an act of animal cruelty.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from The People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals group says they haven't been contacted by police about the accusations and they promote peaceful protests against animal suffering.
