Raids on a Dozen Hunter Properties Find Drugs, Weapons

NSW Police have released details on just what they seized from 12 properties in the Hunter region yesterday.

The Central Hunter Target Action Group and Central Hunter Dog Unit established Strike Force Hoadley in December 2016 to investigate the ongoing supply of drugs in the region.

Ten people have been charged after search warrants at Cessnock, Newcastle, Bellbird, Mayfield and Jesmond uncovered a plethora of drugs including cannabis, and prescription drugs - at a home in Mayfield a number of weapons were allegedly seized including knives, a cross bow, samurai swords and replica firearms.

Six of the ten people arrested face court today on numerous charges.

One man, a 71-year-old who was arrested at Cessnock is charged with supply prohibited drug on ongoing basis, four counts of supply prohibited drug, deal in the proceeds of crime and operate a drug premises. He was refused bail to appear in Cessnock Local Court today.

At the Cessnock properties, police seized methylamphetamines, LSD, cannabis, cash, prescription drugs, replica firearms, ammunition, throwing knives and tools suspected of being stolen.

The others arrested include a 46-year-old man and 29-year-old woman who were arrested at Cessnock; a 32 and 40-year-old man and two women aged 42 and 45 from Cessnock; two men aged 47 and 52 were arrested in Bellbird; and a 37-year-old man was arrested in Jesmond.

Investigations are continuing and its expected further arrests will be made.

Police Found More than Expected When They Pulled Over a Man not Wearing a Helmet in Broadmeadow

Police found more than they expected when they stopped a man on his bike in Broadmeadow yesterday because he wasn't wearing a helmet.

At about 4pm, Newcastle Transport Command officers were patrolling Chatham Road when they stopped the 23-year-old -officers searched him.

Officers discovered he was in possession of a drug belived to be 'ice', a knife, and other items including a passport, cash and credit which are alleged to be unlawfully obtained.

He was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, custody of knife and deal with proceeds of crime.


The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 5 October.

Woman allegedly smashes schooner glass over a man's head

A woman has been charged after she allegedly smashed a schooner glass over the head of her defacto partner at Wests New Lambton overnight.

Police say they were called to Wests at about 2:30 this morning where they arrested the 23-year-old woman for the offence.

She's out on conditional bail and has been charged with allegedly causing grevious bodily harm, domestic assault and she was also found to have a small amount of prohibited drugs in her possession.

The 35-year-old man was treated at the John Hunter Hospital for facial injuries.

The woman will face Newcastle Local Court on 17th August.
