Search Continues For Kangaroo Shooting Culprit

Hunter wildlife rescue volunteers are calling for tighter controls over access to Morisset Psychiatric  Hospital after a kangaroo was shot with a hunting arrow at the weekend.

Staff at the hospital found the young male with an arrow in it's abdomen on Sunday afternoon - it's the second time in two years the hospital's kangaroo population has come under attack.

Lake Macquarie Police attended the hospital but were sadly forced to euthanize the animal.

They're appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Motive Behind Morisset Murder Still A Mystery

Hunter New England Health is standing by a decision to move two psychiatric patients into a low security area of Morisset Hospital where one allegedly fatally stabbed the other in the neck with a knife.

25-year-old Thomas Dillan Stone was charged with the murder of his 41-year-old flatmate, but it's still unclear what provoked the incident.


It's alleged Stone threw the knife into Lake Macquarie, while the wounded man tried to seek help but collapsed in front of staff and died.


The pair had been roomates in a low supervision cottage on the site and were reportedly close to being released into the community.


Hunter New England Health says the men were only moved to the cottage after an independent mental health assessment has been carried out.
