New Aquatic Centre for Cessnock

The greater Cessnock area will be receiving a new aquatic centre if a Liberal Party majority is elected in the local elections.

The $48 million fitness and leisure facility would boost tourism in the area and provide a huge range of economic benefits for the greater Cessnock area.

Councillor Bryce Gibson says the party will start construction as soon as they are elected.

Greyhound Racing No More

The Liberal Government has announced that they will be completely shutting down the industry of Greyhound racing as of July 2017.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot Macdonald, says it was a difficult decision to make, but the Government says there is no possibility of merely reforming the controversial industry.

"The Government was left with no possible alternative but to shut down the industry so we have decided from the 1st of July next year, greyhound racing and betting will be banned."

Liberal Blame Game Starts Over Loss Of Paterson

 The finger pointing has begun over the Liberal Party's poor showing in the seat of Paterson in the federal election.

Liberal candidate Karen Howard suffered a massive 11 per cent swing against her.

It's raised questions within the party as to why former MP, Bob Baldwin and his supporters didn't help the campaign.

However, he says Karen Howard wanted to run her own campaign.and he respected her decision.

The Williamtown RAAF Base contamination and the proposed amalgamation of Newcastle and Ports Stephens Councils are also being blamed for the poor result.
