Man Facing Court Over Alleged Possession Of Child Abuse Material and Firearms

A 23-year-old man is due to front Newcastle Local Court accused of possessing child abuse material.

Local detectives began an investigation in January 2022 after a referral from the Australian Federal Police over the alleged uploading of child abuse material through a social media platform.

Officers searched the man's Kotara home early Thursday morning, allegedly finding items related to child abuse material, five gel blaster firearms, two sets of throwing knives, a set of throwing stars and a trench knife.

The man was arrested at the home - he's been refused bail to face court today (Friday 25 October 2024) charged with 10 offences.

Lake Macquarie Man Gaoled For Sharing Child Abuse Material Online

A Lake Macquarie man has been gaoled for sharing child abuse material online.

The 23-year-old was arrested by Federal Police at his Charlestown home in November 2020.

It followed a tip off from Homeland Security Investigations in the United States.

The man pleaded guilty to four offences in Newcastle District Court and was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months.

With time served and parole he'll be due for release in January 2023.

Holmesville Man Accused of Disseminating Child Abuse Material

Lake Macquarie Police have arrested and charged a man over the alleged possession of child abuse material.

Detectives raided a home on George Street at Holmesville on Thursday following reports a man was disseminating child abuse material over the internet.

Police spoke to a 49-year-old man at the home and say child abuse material was found on his phone.

Officers seized computers, hard drives and mobile phones from the man's home.

He's been granted conditional bail to face Toronto Local Court on March 24.
