A man has been taken into custody following a standoff at Mayfield which lasted almost 10 hours.
Listener Peta, who lives nearby, has told 2NUR-FM News the man fell from the roof sometime before 10am on Friday after climbing up and refusing to come down.
It's believed the man may have been under the influence of drugs.
The 25-year-old has been taken to Newcastle Police Station where inquiries will continue.

Negotiators have been called to assist with a Police operation at Mayfield.
It's believed officers were called to a unit block on Maitland Road near Fitzroy Street just after 12.30am on Friday to a Concern For Welfare.
2NUR-FM News understands a man is holed up on the roof of the building.
Newcastle Fire Command says they sent an aerial appliance to assist but the vehicle could not fit down the drive.
Officers for the Tactical Response Group, Police Rescue, Highway Patrol and General Duties officers are at the scene.

Man Taken To Hospital After Stand-Off At Gateshead

A four-and-a-half hour stand-off with police at Gateshead this morning has ended peacefully.
Neighbours of a home in Oxford Street called police just before 1.00am on Sunday when a man climbed an awning and began shouting and making threats.
Police negotiators and the Rescue Squad were called in and eventually managed to remove him from the roof without incident just before 5.30am.
He's been taken to the Calvary Mater Hospital for a mental health assessment.
No-one was injured - police believe he was under the influence of ICE.

7 Hour Stand-off At Merewether Ends Peacefully

A 7-hour stand off at Merewether has ended with a man surrendering peacefully to police.
Staff at St Joseph's Primary School called police just before 1.30pm on Tuesday after a man wearing a crash helmet and a red cape climbed two stories onto the roof of a school building and refused to come down.
Specialist police were brought in to negotiate with the the 41-year-old, who eventually agreed to come down at about 8.30 last night.
He's been taken to the Mater Hospital for observation and treatment where he remains under police guard.
Police say mental health and substance abuse are likely to be issues which led to the stand-off.
They say the man is expected to be charged with malicious damage and trespass offences.
