Strike Force Arrest Over Alleged Gateshead Abduction in the 1980's

Detectives attached to a strike force investigating the disappearances and suspected killings of three Lake Macquarie teenagers have arrested a man as part of their investigations.

Strike Force Ararapaima was formed in April 2019 to investigate the unsolved cases of Robyn Hickie, Amanda Robinson and Gordana Kotevsky.

As part of those inquiries, detectives arrested a 62-year-old man at a government facility in Silverwater on Monday.

He's been charged with four offences relating to the alleged abduction of a 16-year-old girl at Gateshead in the 1980's.

The arrest is unrelated to the investigation concerning Robyn Hickie, Gordana Kotevski and Amanda Robinson.

 The man and will face Newcastle Local Court on March 13.

$1Mil In Separate Rewards Offered To Solve 40 Year Hickie and Robinson Cold Cases

Police Minister David Elliott has announced separate rewards of $1 million each for information into the disappearance and suspected murders of Lake Macquarie teenagers Robyn Hickie and Amanda Robinson 42 years ago.

18-year-old Robyn left her home on the evening of Saturday April 7, 1979 and was last seen standing at a bus stop on the Pacific Highway at Belmont North.

Two weeks later, 14-year-old Amanda was last seen walking along Lake Road at Swansea on Saturday April 21 after attending a high school dance at Gateshead.

Police Minister David Elliott says despite extensive investigations over the years, the mystery of their disappearances has never been solved.

"It's important that the people of Lake Macquarie, and indeed right across NSW, look into their hearts to see if they have any information that might lead to the conclusion of this matter, " he said.

Strike force detectives investigating the abduction and suspected murder of two teenage girls 40 years ago have made a major breakthrough.

18-year-old Robyn Hickie and 14-year-old Amanda Robinson were abducted at or near bus stops on the Pacific Highway at Belmont North and Swansea within two weeks of each other in 1979

News Limited reports police are now looking into the movements of a 58-year-old successful businessman who currently lives on the Gold Coast.

The former Hunter Valley man was recently granted bail in Queensland over a separate rape and sexual assault offences.

Detectives say a unique, green Holden Torana could also hold the key to proving the identity of the person responsible.

Backpacker killer, Ivan Milat had been a suspect in the girl's disappearance but denied any involvement during an inquest in 2002.
