BREAKING! Body Found During Search For Missing Fisherman At Summerland Point

The body of a man has been located following a marine search for a missing fisherman on Lake Macquarie.

About 4.00pm (Thursday 29 May 2025), police were called to Summerland Point, Lake Macquarie, following reports an 82-year-old man had not returned from a fishing trip.

Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District and Marine Area Command – with assistance from Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving NSW – arrived and began searching for the man after his boat was located abandoned.

During the search – with assistance from a Surf Life Saving NSW helicopter – the body of the man was located in the water about 7.40pm.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Nine Divers Rescued From Sinking Vessel Off Swansea Heads

Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue have safely brought nine people to shore after a commercial vessel started taking on water off  Swansea Heads.

The skipper called for help just before 9 yesterday morning and Rescue Vessel Lake Macquarie 30 and 2 rescue jets skis took about 20 minutes to reach the 6 metre craft about 5-and-a-half kilometres off the heads.

Nine divers were transferred onto the rescue vessel and taken back to the Swansea RSL Wharf.

The rescue team returned to the stricken vessel and assisted the skipper, with the boat towed to Blacksmith Boat Ramp.
