Teenager taken to hospital after car rollover at Jewells

The Pacific Highway is now clear, after an earlier accident near Ntaba Road at Jewells on Wednesday morning.

It's understood a car rolled over in the northbound lanes. 

A teenage boy, believed to be behind the wheel, was taken to Belmont Hospital for minor injuries.

Woman Facing Serious Charges Over Crash At Jewells

A 60-year-old woman from Chain Valley Bay is facing a string of charges over a bad crash at Jewells earlier this year which has left an elderly woman still fighting for her life.

The two women were critically injured when their cars collided at the intersection on Ntaba Road and the Pacific Highway on March 25.

The younger woman was released from hospital and has now been charged with 5 offences including, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive while using a mobile phone and driving with illicit drug present in blood.

She's been granted conditional bail to face Newcastle Local Court on July 30.

A 73-year-old woman from Jewells is being treated for spinal, head and internal injuries.

Police Appeal for Information on Serious Jewells Crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious crash which occurred in Jewells, Lake Macquarie, last week, with two women still remaining in a critical condition in John Hunter Hospital. 

About 10.20am on Wednesday the 25th, a gold Toyota Camry, being driven by a 60-year-old woman, was travelling south on the Pacific Highway at Jewells.

At the same time, a silver Toyota Camry, being driven by a 73-year-old woman, was travelling west on Ntaba Road when the two cars collided at the intersection of Ntaba Road and the Pacific Highway.

The drivers of both cars suffered serious injuries and were taken to John Hunter Hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established by Lake Macquarie Police District, with the circumstances of the crash being investigated by officers from the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit.

As inquiries continue, police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage, to contact police.

Two Women in Critical Condition at John Hunter, Following Lake Macquarie Crash

Two women,  aged 74 and 65 were in a critical condition in John Hunter Hospital, following a two car crash in Jewells in Lake Macquarie at around 10:20 am on Wednesday morning.

3 Ambulance crews were called to the scene, with one woman found in a critical condition after sustaining head injuries and going into the cardiac arrest during the incident



The other woman sustained pelvic injuries whilst trapped in her vehicle.

The crash investigation unit, Police and Transport NSW remain on scene, traffic is affected in both directions.

South bound traffic is using the bus lane to pass the crash site and there is no right turn into, or out of, Ntaba road.

Supermarket Manager Threatened During Armed Robbery At Jewells

A supermarket manager has had a knife pulled on him during a brazen robbery at Jewells.

He was closing up the Coles store on Ntaba Road at about 8.30pm on Wednesday when two people pushing a trolley full of goods approached and threatened him with a knife before escaping with items.

Police later found the goods dumped nearby.

The manager wasn't injured and police are checking CCTV footage in a bid to identify the culprits.

UPDATE! Firefighters Called To House Fire At Jewells

Extra resources have been brought in to tackle a fierce house fire at Jewells.

It's believed a car was set alight in the carport of the two level Housing NSW townhouse in Doongara Close just before 6am and quickly spread to the home..

Newcastle Fire Command says it's understood all the occupants have been accounted for.

9 fire trucks including an aerial appliance from Newcastle are battling the blaze in a bid to stop it spreading to neighbouring homes.

EARLIER:

In Breaking news, firefighters have called to a house fire at Jewells.

Newcastle Fire Command says they received several triple zero calls just before 6.00am on Wednesday to a two storey townhouse in Doongara Close, arriving to find the property well alight.

It's not clear at this stage if anyone is inside the home.

Police and ambulance crews are also on the way.
