BREAKING! Teenage Girl Arrested After Fatal Stabbing At Edgeworth

A teenage girl is assisting police with their inquiries over the alleged stabbing death of another girl known to her at Edgeworth.

Emergency services were called to Euston Avenue at about 10.20pm on Monday August 4 to reports of a stabbing.

Paramedics treated a teenage girl for a stab wound to her torso before taking her to hospital in a critical condition where she later died.

The girl is yet to be formally identified.

Police arrested a teenage girl at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and will be forensically examined by specialist officers.

Officers from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.

Pursuit Ends With Arrest Of A Man At Wallsend

A man is due to front court today (Tuesday 22 July 2025) after allegedly leading police on a lengthy pursuit through the Hunter overnight.

Just after 2.00am today, a highway patrol officer noticed a Honda Accord with mismatching number plates on Minmi Road at Edgeworth and began pursuing the car when the driver failed to stop.

The chase continued up the Hunter Expressway to John Renshaw Drive then back to Minmi before the car stopped at the intersection of Lake Road and the Newcastle Link Road at Wallsend.

Police say the driver fled into bush where he was arrested after a short scuffle.

The 45-year-old from Stroud has been refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today charged with a string of traffic offences including Police Pursuit Not Stop, Dangerous Driving and Assault Police.

UPDATE! Police Investigate Fatal Crash At Edgeworth

One person has died in a single vehicle crash at Edgeworth overnight.

Police say a small hatchback crashed into a power pole on Main Road just after 1.30am on Thursday.

The driver, a woman in her 30's, died in the crash.

A female passenger has been taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

Main Road is closed westbound with diversions in place at Lake Road and the Newcastle Link Road while crash investigators examine the scene.

Boat And Cars Damaged By Fire At Edgeworth

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at Edgeworth overnight.

Four fire crews from Cardiff and Holmesville were called to a home in Nott Street at about 9.45pm on Monday to find a boat and a car had caught fire.

Newcastle Fire Command says the car fire had been extinguished prior to arrival of firefighters.

They took about 20 minutes to put out the boat fire.

A second car sustained minor fire damage.

No-one was injured during the incident.

Break-And-Enters At Thornton And Edgeworth Could Be Linked, Police Say

Police have released CCTV footage of a man as investigations continue into two alleged break and enters in the Hunter Region. 

Officers allege a man broke into a supermarket on the corner of Taylor Avenue and Thomas Coke at Thornton at about 2:30am on Monday the 5th of June and stole a cash box. 

A second cash box was allegedly stolen from a supermarket at the intersection of Main Road and Callan Street at Edgeworth on Wednesday the 14th of June. 
 
Police believe the two incidents may be linked and have released footage of a man they believe will be able to assist with enquiries. 

He's being described as Caucasian in appearance and of a medium build. 

He is shown wearing a white face mask, a black and white hooded jumper with writing down both sides, gloves, grey shorts and white sneakers.

BREAKING! House Destroyed By Fire At Edgeworth

A home has been destroyed in an overnight fire at Edgeworth.

Fire crews from Cardiff, Wallsend, Minmi and Teralba were called to the single level home on Croudace Street at 12.30am on Thursday to find the house totally involved in fire.

It took two hours for crews to extinguish and mop up the blaze.

Newcastle Fire Command says no-one was injured and it's believed the vacant home was frequently used by squatters, although no-one was found inside.

Sadly though, firefighters found a deceased dog inside the property.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing

Police Believe Same Man Is Responsible For Break & Enters At Thornton, Rutherford and Edgeworth

Police are stepping up investigations into a spate of break and enters across the Hunter.

In the first incident, a man broke into a Thornton supermarket in the early hours of June 5 and stole a cash box.

A fast-food restaurant inside the Rutherford Mall was broken into at about 1.00am on June 13, with a man stealing cash.

Then, just before midnight last Wednesday, a man broke into a supermarket at the corner of Main Road and Callan Street Edgeworth and stole a cash box.

Police believe the same man is responsible.

Police believe this man is responsible for three break and enter offences over the past month

Three Charged Over Drug, Firearm, and Pursuit Offences in The Hunter

Raptor Squad North detectives have charged three people in the Hunter with drug supply and police pursuit offences.

Earlier this year, detectives commenced an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs and firearms in the region. 

Following extensive inquiries, at about 9:20am yesterday, police executed a search warrant at a home at Kurri Kurri, where they seized methylamphetamine and thousands of dollars in cash. 

Two women aged 28 and 23 were arrested.

A short time later, police attempted to talk to a 24-year-old man on Groves Road at Bennetts Green, however he allegedly fled the scene in a car.

Two short pursuits were initiated in the Lake Macquarie area before they were terminated due to safety concerns.

The man was surrounded and arrested a short time later at a property in Edgeworth, where police seized knuckle dusters and a small amount of illegal drugs. 

All three offenders were refused bail to appear in court today.

Police Hunt For Motorcyclist Who Threatened Edgeworth Resident With A Gun

Lake Macquarie police have released a description of a man who allegedly threatened a man with a gun near his Edgeworth home.

Police have been told at about 10.45am on Thursday 1 June, an unknown male rode a motorcycle to Etheridge Crescent before threatening another man with a firearm.

The armed man was wearing a black hoodie with slim beige-coloured chino pants and white shoes.

He was riding a dirt bike with an orange front and dark rear.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

Edgeworth to Receive New Ambulance Station

A new ambulance station in Edgeworth is on the way, thanks to the state government's record investment into health.

The new station will feature internal parking for emergency ambulance vehicles, vehicle wash facilities, logistics and storage spaces, an administration office, staff amenities, and multipurpose spaces to support staff education. 

It comes as part of the government's total 1.76 billion dollar investment, which is set to transform NSW ambulance services over the next 4 years. 

As part of the program, the government has also announced $835 million will be allocated to the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct, $111.48 million will be handed-down to redevelop Cessnock Hospital, and 45 million will go towards Muswellbrook Hospital. 

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Taylor Martin, said the site for the Edgeworth station will be determined once further planning is completed with key stakeholders.

Raptor Squad launches public appeal in Edgeworth assault investigation

Raptor Squad detectives are appealing to the public in the investigation into a serious assault at Edgeworth last year. 

Around 8am on Tuesday 10 Auust 2021, two men were inside a purple Holden Commodore at a gravel carpark on the intersection of Impala Street and Main Road. 

Another two men entered the carpark in a black Audi hatchback, one of them using a knife to slash the Commodore's tyres and stabbing the passenger. 

The driver was also assaulted. 

The attackers fled the scene in the Audi, heading east on Edgeworth's Main Road.

Both injured men, aged 33, have since recovered after treatment at the John Hunter Hospital.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a black Audi hatchback, observed in the area a short time after the incident. 

Detectives have also issued an image of a pair of distinct red and black sunglasses left at the scene. 

The driver of the Audi is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 180cm to 185cm tall, with dark coloured hair in a mohawk style. 

The Audi passenger is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 155cm tall, with tattoos on his face, neck and arms, and red hair with a mohawk and mullet style haircut.

Edgeworth Man Gaoled For Sex Abuse Offences

An Edgeworth man will spend at least 3 years in gaol over multiple sexual abuse offences committed against a woman and a child.

Federal Police began investigating the 44-year-old after he was identified through the nationwide Operation Arkstone.

He was arrested in December 2020.

Inquiries revealed the man was producing and distributing child abuse material and intimate images of a woman without her consent.

The man was sentenced on Thursday in Newcastle Local Court to a maximum 6 years, with a non-parole period of 3.

BREAKING! Fire Rips Through Home At Edgeworth

 A woman has been treated for smoke inhalation after fire ripped through a home at Edgeworth overnight.

5 Fire & Rescue trucks from Cardiff, West Wallsend and Minmi were called to the weatherboard and tile home on Ridley Street at 7.20pm on Wednesday to find the house fully involved in fire.

Paramedics treated a female occupant at the scene.

It took crews almost 2 hours to fully extinguish the fire.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known and is under investigation.

Teenage boy sparks police pursuit across the Hunter

A 14-year-old boy has seen court on Tuesday after being charged following an alleged break and enter and pursuit in a stolen vehicle across the Hunter.

About 2.50pm on Monday, a 78-year-old woman was inside a home on Kookaburra Parade at Woodberry, when a teenage boy entered the home through an unlocked rear door.

Police will allege in court the teenager threatened the woman with a rock and took her car keys.

The woman attempted to grab the keys from the young person before a brief struggle where she was pushed to the ground.

The teenager fled the scene a short time later in a silver Nissan Tiida.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were notified and commenced inquiries in the area.

A short time later, Traffic and Highway Patrol police were patrolling the nearby area when they observed the Nissan driving on Anderson Drive, Beresfield, before the vehicle mounted a pedestrian footpath towards Beresford Avenue.

Police activated warning sirens however the vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through several suburbs, with road spikes successfully deployed southbound on the M1 near the Wallsend exit.

The Nissan continued onto Link Road where the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

Police continued to patrol the nearby area before the vehicle was sighted at Harper Avenue, Edgeworth, where three people fled into nearby bushland.

Two teenage girls, both aged 14, were located hiding under a house on Neilson Street.

A perimeter was established, and with assistance from the Police Dog Unit, a 14-year-old boy was located a short time later in bushland near Harper Avenue.

All three teenagers were arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station.

The teenage boy was charged with armed aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly and take & drive conveyance without consent of owner.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today on Tuesday.

The two teenage girls were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Pregnant Woman And Police Allegedly Assaulted At Edgeworth

A man's due to face Toronto Local Court today after allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman and two police officers.

Officers were called to a home on Orlong Close at Edgeworth on Saturday morning finding a 27-year-old woman with bruises on her face and arrested the 26-year-old man.

But as they were putting him in a Police truck he allegedly began to struggle, leaving a senior constable with a dislocated shoulder and injuries to his lower back, hand and groin, before taking on a second senior constable, allegedly kicking him in the face three times.

The man's facing 17 charges.

One of the officers was taken to John Hunter Hospital and the second receive treatment at Belmont Police Station.

Both officers are now at home and unfit for duty.

Police Seek Help To Identify Lake Macquarie Service Station Armed Robber

Lake Macquarie Police have released CCTV footage as they continue investigations into several armed robberies.

Detectives from Strike Force Woonooka are investigating four armed robberies at three Lake Macquarie service stations in the past month.

The first hold-up was at the 7/11 on Main Road Cardiff at about 3.00am on Thursday June 10 where a man dressed in dark clothing and a face covering threatened the attendant with a large knife before running off with cash and cigarettes.

It's believed the man made another unsuccessful attempt at the same 7/11 store on Tuesday June 29.

He's also believed responsible for armed robberies on 2 other service stations on Main Road at Edgeworth at about 10.50pm on Saturday 12 June and Collier Street Redhead at about 7.15pm on Friday 9 July.

Police Release CCTV After Couple Awake to Find Car Up in Flames Outside Edgeworth Home

Police are appealing for public assistance following a car fire in Edgeworth. 

About 3am on November 23rd 2020, a 33-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were awoken by a large banging noise before they exited their home on Ridley Street, Edgeworth, and located their Ford Falcon utility well alight.

Emergency services were called and crews from Fire and Rescue New South Wales extinguished the blaze a short time later.

A second vehicle – a Hyundai Elantra – received minor smoke damage, while the Ford was completely destroyed.

As inquiries are continuing, police have released CCTV footage of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is wearing a hooded jumper, shorts and black joggers.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the nearby area or who may have any information is urged to contact Belmont Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

BREAKING! Man Threatens To Blow Up Car At Edgeworth

A man is due to face court accused of threatening to blow up a car at Edgeworth.

Police and emergency services were called to Main Road at about 6.30pm on Wednedsay where a 48-year-old man had allegedly released gas from an LPG bottle into the back of the vehicle and was threatening to set it alight with a cigarette lighter.

Main Road was closed while police negotiated with the man who surrendered without incident after about 30 minutes.

Police say the incident related to a dispute over unpaid rent.

The man has been charged with possessing explosives with intent and will undergo a mental health assessment before facing Toronto Local Court today.

Fire Forces Evacuation Of Disabled Residents At Edgeworth

10 people have been evacuated after a fire engulfed a two cars and a carport at Edgeworth early Thursday morning.

Newcastle Fire Command says 7 fire trucks and a duty commander were called to a block of flats on Charles Street at 1.30am to find the cars and the carport under the unit block well alight.

They managed to stop the fire spreading to the units.

10 people with disabilities were safely evacuated and no-one was injured.

It's taken crews more than 3 hours to fully extinguish and mop up the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

Hunter House Fires Prompt Warning From Firefighters

The occupants of a house at Muswellbrook have escaped unharmed after a fire broke out last night.

Firefighters from Muswellbrook and Aberdeen arrived at the Chenin Close home to find a fire in the kitchen.

They took 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze and ventilate the house.

Newcastle Fire Command says a pot of oil left unattended on the stove caused the fire which left the kitchen badly damaged.

Meanwhile crews were also called to a unit complex on Main Road at Edgeworth at about 7.30 where food cooking on a barbeque on a balcony caught alight.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

It's prompted a warning from firefighters not to leave cooking food unattended.
