New designs are on show for the Newcastle Link Road at Minmi Road intersection to replace a roundabout with an overpass and two sets of traffic lights.
It’s hoped the new upgrades will slash travel times for drivers travelling to and from Edgeworth and clear the bottleneck caused by the existing roundabout.
Under plans on public exhibition, new ramps would link onto existing lanes and the road would be open to future housing connections with a Link Road estate on the State Government’s priority list.
The estate is heavily opposed by local environmentalists.
Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery says she’s pleased the design will replace the old roundabout, and residents are encouraged to have their say until October 17.
