Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison says the State Reconstruction Authority is participating in efforts to address the New Lambton landslip.
A Lord Mayoral Minute was last night supported at Newcastle Council to write to the Premier calling for the Authority to lead the cleanup.
Residents met with Jodie Harrison this month to raise their concerns. She says she’s relayed them to Recovery Minister Janelle Saffin.
“They are rightly concerned, they are seeking clarity on their futures, they want to know what the status is on their homes.
“Newcastle City Council is leading the work on this, and the Reconstruction Authority is part of the local recovery committee,” she said.
But Newcastle Lord Mayor Ross Kerridge says the State Government needs to step up.
“This is not a job council is used to, we have engaged a person to lead the recovery effort from Council’s point of view and she’s doing a good job.
“But in the overall scheme of things, this is what the Reconstruction Authority was set up to do, so they should be doing it,” he said.
