A cyclist has died after a hit and run with an SUV in Lake Macquarie at the weekend.
At about 11am on Sunday, emergency services were called to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabakal Drive following reports of a crash.
At the scene, officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District were told a 42-year-old male cyclist and an SUV had collided.
The vehicle is believed to be a black Toyota FJ Cruiser, which failed to stop after the crash.
The cyclist was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
However, at about 9.50 am on Monday, he died in hospital.
A crime scene was established by the Crash Investigation Unit, who have since commenced inquires into the incident.
