Firefighters are ramping up the Keep Looking When Cooking message following separate house fires overnight.
Crews were called to a home on Valentine Crescent at Valentine at 5.15pm on Wednesday where food left cooking on a stove caught alight.
A 40-year-old man was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
Then a 6.00pm, crews were called to a home on Burley Street at Tenambit where food left on a stove set the kitchen on fire.
Three children and an adult were treated for smoke inhalation while the fire caused damage to 25 per cent of the kitchen.
Newcastle Fire Command says residents should move outside as quickly as possible when a fire breaks out to avoid breathing toxic smoke.
