Push To Bring Bolt To Mailtland

BY XANTHE GREGORY

Cr Robert Aitchison is calling upon Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt to do the first lap around Maitland's new athletics track.

At a recent Council meeting the Cr Aitchison raised the idea for the opening of the $10 million field.

The proposal comes after reports that the eight-time Olympic gold medalist is negotiating with the Central Coast Mariners to trial for the football team.

“It would be great for our city to ask Bolt if he would be the first person to run around the track,” said Robert Aitchison.

“It would certainly showcase Maitland and what we have on offer, in terms of top class sporting facilities, to the world,” he said.

Usain Bolt is still in negotiations with the Mariners but is expected to complete a six-week trial which could see him sign a full-year contract.
