Police have charged a man with murder over the death of Raymond Terrace grandmother, Jan Garrett.
The body of the 76-year-old was found in her burnt-out home in Rosemount Drive on Saturday morning.
A 69-year-old man who lived at the home has been charged with murder and destroying property with intent to endanger life.
He's been refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court on Thursday September 6.
