Newcastle's Foreshore Park Comes Alive For Annual Variety Bash

BY IAN CROUCH

More than 100 cars will take part in the annual AHA Variety Bash, which kicks off this morning at 8.00am from the Newcastle Foreshore.

Over the next week, drivers and their teams will take their cars, which are 30 years old or more, on a 2000 kilometre trek along some the most rugged tracks and back roads in NSW, raising much-needed funds for Variety, the Children's Charity.

They'll stop at Glen Innes, Narrabri, Forbes, Griffith, Orange and Mudgee, making stops along the way to visit and donate to sick and disadvantaged children.

Participants must raise a minimum of $4,000 per car to enter the event, while drivers and their teams will be collecting donations along the way.

Last year, more than 250 people took part in the bash, raising more than $800,000 for local children who are sick, have a disability or who are facing financial hardship.

The cars will return to Newcastle next Sunday morning.
