Fishermen assaulted at Queen's Wharf

BY LAUREN FREEMANTLE

Two Mayfield men are set to face Newcastle Court today over an assault at Queens Wharf last night.

Around 12:40am, police were called to the Wharf Road Ferry Terminal following reports two men had approached a pair of men who were fishing.

It's alleged a 22-year-old man asked the pair for a cigarette, and when refused, threatened the men with a glass bottle.

The second accused, also 22, used scissors to demand the pair hand over a necklace and watch.

One alleged victim managed to slip away and contact police, while the other continued to be threatened even after handing over a cigarette.

No injuries were reported.

Both alleged offenders have been charged with assault with intent to rob and have been refused bail.

It's understood a juvenile female was also involved in the assault, however, she was released pending further inquiries.
